Dog boarding in a home, not a kennel
Dog boarding with a pet sitter means the dog sleeps in a house, not in a kennel. He stays for a weekend or a holiday, often with a garden, then goes home. In Belgium many owners choose this because they want one person to talk to and a price set in advance.
EuroPetSitter connects owners and pet sitters in Brussels, Ghent, Antwerp, Liège, Namur and Charleroi. The sitter sets the price. The platform does not take a commission on the stay. Booking starts on the profile, with a signed-in owner account. A sitter account cannot book care.
Meet before you leave the dog
Leaving a dog for several nights with someone you have only seen in a photo is the main reason stays get cancelled. Arrange a walk, then an hour in the sitter’s home. The dog learns the smell, the garden and the other animals. You see whether the leash is handled properly and whether the sitter asks precise questions.
Ask about the housing: flat, house, fenced garden or farm. A dog used to a garden in Uccle or Angleur does not experience boarding the same way as a flat dog in Ixelles. The journey matters as much as the rate. Filter by city first, then by boarding.
What to pack for the stay
Bring the usual food for the whole stay, plus one extra day, with the exact amount per meal. Add the leash, the harness, a coat if it rains, and something that smells like home. A new kibble during boarding often causes an upset stomach. The sitter should not invent a new diet.
Write down the vet, the medication and the time, and what to do if the dog gets out. Also say what is normal: a bit stiff in the morning, wary of strangers, pulling toward bikes. Without that, the sitter calls for nothing, or does not call when they should.
The first night, then the holiday
A short first stay, one night or a weekend, tells you more than jumping into a full week. Ask for a photo on the first evening: the dog arrived, ate, and is calm or not. That is not constant surveillance. It shows the boarding has started properly.
If that night goes well, the next holiday can be longer. Keep the same sitter when you can. A dog that already knows the house, the garden and the walk times settles faster than in a new kennel every time.
